American musician and actor Awkwafina debuted with sly rap tracks that tackled sexuality and racial identities with a the most outrageous comedy perspective prior to broadening her reach to Hollywood. She was born Nora Lum to Chinese and Korean immigrant parents in Forest Hills Queens her first taste of musician life came in the form of trumpet. After classical and Jazz training her interest in hip-hop grew as a teen. In college, she concentrated on her studies. She took up a degree in women's studies and journalism.
