Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) She was raised by her mother, her grandmother, as well as her godparents. Her father abandoned her family. As a child, Ford suffered anxiety due to an obsessional-compulsive disorder. Ford's passion for acting started when she was young. She was a part of in the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. After a couple of days, she realized that Sylvia Young Theatre School was not the right place right for her. Ford made an application for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and eventually secured a position on her fourth try. A classmate of hers was Shaun Dingwall, who would be later reprise her role in the role of Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford graduated in 1993 but, by that time, she had already made her debut on television in an episode from 1991 from Surgical Spirit; she adopted the professional name "Catherine Tate". Through the Nineties, Tate could be found on TV in shows like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. Also, she was a regular performer in the theatre, eventually becoming a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate became famous for her stand-up comedy, that were added to her repertoire in 1996.
